Auli in April 2026: Weather, Treks, Things to Do & Where to Stay | The Auli Meadows
April is an excellent time to visit Auli. Temperatures range from 7°C to 15°C, roads are fully open, the peaks are still snow-capped, and wildflowers are beginning to bloom in the bugyals. It is ideal for Gorson Bugyal treks, ropeway rides, and peaceful Himalayan escapes — without the winter ski crowds.
Why Visit Auli in April?
April is the month Auli shows you everything at once. The skiing season has just wound down, the Char Dham yatra roads are reopening, and the great meadows (bugyals) around the resort are starting their slow transformation from winter white to spring green. You get snow still clinging to the high peaks of Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Kamet — but the trails are walkable, the air is crisp without being brutal, and the property rates are genuinely lower than peak season.
At The Auli Meadows, we have had guests tell us April was their favourite visit — calmer, clearer, and closer to what they imagined the Himalayas would feel like.
Auli Weather in April
| Average High | Average Low | Sky Condition |
|---|---|---|
| 14–15°C | 3–7°C (nights) | Mostly clear, occasional light showers in late April |
What to pack: Light thermals + a windproof outer layer. Days are warm enough for a t-shirt by 11am; mornings and evenings stay cold. Waterproof trekking shoes are a must.
Top 6 Things to Do in Auli in April
1. Gorson Bugyal Trek — The Best Spring Walk from The Auli Meadows
The 3km trail from the resort to Gorson Bugyal (Gurson Bugyal) is at its finest in April. The snow has retreated from the path, the forest of oak and rhododendron is leafing out, and you emerge onto open meadows with Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Dronagiri sitting directly in front of you. Beginners can do it in under 2 hours round trip. We offer guided morning treks from the property — ask at check-in.
Best time: 7am start — golden hour light on the peaks and no other trekkers on the trail.
2. Auli Ropeway — Asia's Highest Cable Car with Nanda Devi Views
The Auli-Joshimath ropeway (4 km, one of Asia's longest) runs year-round and gives you aerial views of the Nanda Devi range, Kamet, and the deep Dhauliganga valley. April is the best season to ride it — no ski-season crowds, crystal-clear air, and the ropeway often has same-day tickets available.
3. Niti Valley Day Trip
April marks the first month the Niti Valley road opens after winter. This remote valley on the Indo-Tibetan border is home to the Bhotiya tribe and the legendary Timmersain Mahadev ice cave. Our team can arrange a full-day jeep excursion from the resort.
4. Spring Photography at the Bugyals
April gives photographers a rare gift: snow still on the distant peaks, wildflowers starting to appear in the meadow grass, and the brilliant blue Himalayan sky. The terrace of The Auli Meadows itself is one of the best vantage points — our Swiss tents look directly across to the Nanda Devi massif.
5. Kuari Pass Trek (For the Adventurous)
April is the very beginning of the Kuari Pass trekking season (officially opens in May, but experienced trekkers start in late April). The trail, known as Lord Curzon's Trail, passes through oak forests and opens to arguably the best panoramic views of India's highest peaks. Speak with our team about guide availability.
6. Joshimath Town & Narsingh Temple
A 10-minute drive from the resort takes you to Joshimath — the sacred winter seat of Lord Badrinath, established by Adi Shankaracharya. The ancient Narsingh Temple and local market are worth a half-day. The town also has several small cafes serving local pahadi thalis.
