Where is the Snow? Tackling Global Warming & Sustainability at The Auli Meadows
The Reality of Sustainable Tourism in Auli Amidst Global Warming
It is the question on everyone’s mind: “It is January, so why isn’t Auli covered in a thick blanket of white yet?”
While we eagerly await the snowfall, we cannot ignore the larger truth. The Himalayas are sending us a message. This is why sustainable tourism in Auli is no longer just an option; it is a necessity.
At The Auli Meadows, we don’t just see ourselves as a resort; we are guardians of this mountain. The delayed snow is a reminder that we must protect what we love. Here is how we are championing sustainable tourism in Auli and what we are doing to ensure our meadows stay pristine for generations to come.
Infrastructure: The Backbone of Sustainable Tourism in Auli
The traditional construction industry, specifically heavy concrete hotels, is a major contributor to carbon emissions. To practice true sustainable tourism in Auli, we chose a different path.

We utilize Low-Impact Architecture. Our Luxury Swiss Tents are designed to rest lightly on the earth. Unlike heavy concrete structures that retain heat and disrupt the soil ecosystem, our semi-permanent structures minimize land degradation. We use high-grade, weather-proof materials that insulate naturally, reducing the need for excessive electric heating.
The “Zero-Mile” Food Philosophy
Transporting food ingredients across the country burns fossil fuels and increases a meal’s carbon footprint. A key pillar of sustainable tourism in Auli is reducing this distance.
As mentioned in our previous post about our Authentic Garhwali Thali, our kitchen operates on a Farm-to-Table model. We source our Gehath (Horse Gram), Mandua (Millet), and seasonal vegetables from the local village farms surrounding the resort.
This not only supports the local economy but drastically cuts down “Food Miles,” ensuring your meal has one of the lowest carbon footprints in the region.
Fighting the Plastic Pandemic
The mountains are fragile. One plastic bottle left in Auli can stay here for 400 years. At The Auli Meadows, we are aggressively moving towards a Plastic-Free Zone.
We encourage guests to use refillable water bottles and avoid single-use plastics. Our waste is segregated strictly, ensuring that recyclable materials do not end up in Himalayan landfills. We strive to follow the global principles of Leave No Trace to keep our surroundings pristine.
