Delhi to Auli: The Complete Travel Guide for a Hassle-Free Journey

Planning your journey from Delhi to Auli is easier than you think. “How do I actually get there?” is the most common question we hear from guests planning their first trip to the Himalayas. While Auli feels like a secluded paradise far removed from the chaos of the city, reaching us is quite straightforward if you know the right routes.

Whether you prefer a scenic road trip or a quick flight, here is your comprehensive guide to traveling from Delhi to The Auli Meadows safely and comfortably.

Option 1: By Air (The Fastest Route)

If you are short on time, flying is your best option.

  • Nearest Airport: Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun (DED).

  • The Journey: From Delhi, it’s a quick 45-minute flight. Once you land in Dehradun, Auli is approximately a 280 km drive, which takes about 8–9 hours.

  • Pro Tip: We highly recommend hiring a private taxi directly from the airport to Joshimath. The drive takes you through the stunning mountain roads of Rishikesh and Srinagar, following the path of the holy Ganges.

Option 2: By Train (The Scenic & Budget-Friendly Route)

For those who enjoy the rhythm of the rails, the train is a great choice.

  • Nearest Station: Rishikesh Railway Station (approx. 260 km from Auli).

  • The Journey: Take an overnight train from Delhi to Rishikesh. From there, you can catch a bus or hire a taxi to Joshimath.

  • Why we love it: The drive from Rishikesh to Auli is iconic. You will pass the Devprayag Sangam, where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet to form the Ganga—a sight that is absolutely worth a pit stop.

Option 3: The Road Trip (For the Adventure Lovers)

Driving from Delhi to Auli is an adventure in itself.

  • Distance: Approx. 500 km.

  • Route: Delhi ➔ Haridwar ➔ Rishikesh ➔ Devprayag ➔ Rudraprayag ➔ Joshimath ➔ Auli.

  • Recommendation: To keep the drive relaxed, we suggest breaking your journey with an overnight stay in Rishikesh or Srinagar. The roads are generally well-maintained, but mountain driving requires patience and caution. Start early (around 4 AM) to beat the city traffic.

The Final Leg: Joshimath to Auli

Once you reach Joshimath, you are almost home! The Auli Meadows is situated just a short drive up from the town.

  • Winter Note: During heavy snowfall (January–February), the road from Joshimath to Auli may be closed to standard vehicles. In this case, the Auli Ropeway (Cable Car) is not just a mode of transport but a spectacular experience, offering aerial views of the snow-clad forests. Our team is always on standby to assist with transfers during these snowy months.

Travel Essentials Checklist

  1. Motion Sickness: The mountain roads are winding. Keep medication handy if you are prone to motion sickness.

  2. Acclimatization: Auli is at a high altitude. Drink plenty of water during your journey to stay hydrated.

  3. Warm Layers: Keep a jacket accessible in the car; the temperature drops significantly as you ascend from Rudraprayag.
